Follow Up on the Amazon and Update on PFAS “Forever Chemicals”

We reported previously on the efforts to save the Amazonian rainforest both in News Posts and a podcast on August 29, 2023 “Rainforest Restitution”. The presidents of Brazil and France announced on March 26, 2024 a one billion euro (1.1 billion dollars) plan to protect the Amazonian rainforest in Brazil and French Guiana over the next four years. A good start.

Also, we have reported in news posts on January 17, 2023,  May 22, 2023 and June 8, 2023  and in the Clinicians Corner page about PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, “forever chemicals” that are ubiquitous and toxic). The FDA on February 28, 2024 announced that PFAS used in grease-proofing agents for food packaging will no longer be sold in the United States. PFAS used in packaging gets into the food and then into us when we eat the food. Also, on April 5, 2024 The Guardian reported on moves by California, Vermont and Colorado to ban PFAS in menstrual products. While these are small steps, they are steps in the right direction.
